Q. What's this all about?
A. The National Heads-Up Poker Championship is an invitation-only, exclusive event in which 64 players compete in one-on-one rounds of Texas Hold’em poker. The winner of each round will advance until one player is crowned the champion. PokerStars is running free-to-enter qualifiers, and one PokerStars player will be invited to participate in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship, and be seen on national TV playing for $1,500,000.
Q. Great! Who's eligible?
A. Anyone who lives in the US and is of the age of majority in their state can play. All you have to do is sign up for a free PokerStars account or use your existing account to be awarded two (2) free entries. You do not need a ticket to play, nor do you need to contact support. Simply locate the tournament in your PokerStars game lobby under "Tourney" and play. You can use your two free entries to play in one Round 1A and one Round 1B tournament.
Q. What exactly can I win?
A. A National Heads Up Poker Championship Grand Prize valued at over $20,000.
Q. When and where will I need to go if I win?
A. The National Heads-Up Championship will be played in Las Vegas from February 28 – March 2. You must be able to travel to Las Vegas during these days. If you are unable to travel your prize will be awarded to the next runner-up and no compensation will be given in exchange. The Grand Prize package is non-transferable and has no monetary value if not used by the winner. You must arrange your own travel to Las Vegas for these days.
Q. How do I enter?
A. All new and existing players will be awarded two free entries. You can use your two free entries to play in one Round 1A and one Round 1B tournament.
Round 1A – Run Daily at 7:00 PM ET
Round 1B – Run Daily at 10:00 PM ET
Q. How do I win?
A. All you have to do to win is PLAY! Simply log in to the PokerStars game software, click "Tourney" and scroll down to find the next "Heads-Up Qualifying – Round 1A (U.S. players)" or "Heads-Up Qualifying – Round 1B (U.S. players)" event. There are Round 1A events at 7:00 PM ET and Round 1B events at 10:00 PM ET, throughout the promotion. You are eligible to play for free only once in each type of tournament (one Round 1A and one Round 1B). Click here for a complete schedule of Round 1A and Round 1B tournaments.
Q. The tournaments are full! How do I play?
A. Each Round 1A and Round 1B allows a maximum of 10,000 entries. Registration for these events opens two hours prior to their start time, and is available on a first come, first served basis. You may use your free entries any time during the promotion. If you are shut out please try again two hours before the next event begins.
Q. Is there any way to gain extra tickets?
A. No, in order to allow all of our eligible players an equal chance to win we are limiting entries to a total of two per player, .one in Round 1A and one in Round 1B. Any attempt to gain additional entry through falsifying or duplicating your account will result in disqualification and possibly the closing of your PokerStars account.
Q. What is Round 1A and Round 1B?
A. Round 1A and Round 1B are the two types of Daily Round 1 qualifying events. You are eligible to enter one of each event for free. You must enter one Round 1A (7:00 PM ET) and one Round 1B (10:00 PM ET) to take advantage of both of your free chances to play.
Q. Can I play in two Round 1A events instead of one of each?
A. No. You have one free entry to each event and you must enter each event once to play twice. You are not required to play both events, but you can not trade or exchange your Round 1A or Round 1B for a different Round 1 event.
Q. Sounds great, but what is included in the Grand Prize Package?
A. Each Grand Prize Package includes: free entry to the 2008 National Heads Up Championship (worth $20,000), $1,000 credited to your PokerStars account for travel and 4 nights accommodation in Las Vegas during the event (February 28 – March 2).
Q. Can I win more than one Round 3 Entry?
A. No. If you manage to qualify for the Round 3 final with both of your free entries, you will only be eligible to play the first entry and there is no cash value awarded to your second Round 3 final entry, and it cannot be transferred.
Q. When are the Round 1 satellites?
A. Round 1 tournaments are held every day. Round 1A tournaments start daily at 7:00 PM ET and Round 1B tournaments start daily at 10:00 PM ET. Each new and existing PokerStars player is allowed to play in one of each event. You may choose to use your free entries at any time during the promotion.
Q. When are the Round 2 satellites?
A. Round two tournaments are held on – Saturday January 26, February 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 4:00 PM ET.
Q. I won a Round 1 satellite, but it's not convenient for me to play in the Round 2 satellite that I was registered for. What should I do?
A. You can "Unregister" from the Round 2 satellite and receive a ticket to use in another Round 2. But remember, you must use any tickets you have during the promotion, as they have no value after the promotion ends.
Q. My husband opened a PokerStars account last year but never played on it. Can I play on that account under this promotion?
A. No. If your husband wants to play to win a seat, that's great. But we do require that the player whose name is listed on the account play the event. Please feel free to open your own account and play.
Q. What are my obligations to PokerStars if I win?
A. Thank you for asking. Please read our Terms and Conditions for your obligations should you win a prize during this promotion.
Q. Can I transfer my ticket or prize to a friend?
A. No. All free entry tickets must be used by the account they are credited to. In addition, the winner of any prize during the Heads Up Championship promotion may not transfer their prize.
